Varsity Baseball
Varsity Baseball is comprised of 7th & 8th graders. We have an agreement with St. John Vianney that if either school cannot field a team we combine teams to ensure an opportunity for all to play.
The league has more traditional baseball rules and plays on 90’ diamonds. The regular season consists of 8 – 10 games, league playoffs and Diocesan playoffs. The season usually starts with the St. Francis tournament in mid- August. The regular season starts in September and playoffs can run until the end of October.
First Regular Season win:
Matt Shalloe pitched a complete game and struck out 8 batters as the combined Queen of Heaven & Saint Vincent’s Varsity baseball team defeated 14 Holy Helpers 8 to 6. Colin Melligan’s slick fielding at second base and Josh Gabalski (SVS) strong play at shortstop helped end the late inning rally attempts to secure the victory.
Matt O’Brien’s 3 RBIs, Ryan Jacobell’s RBI and Joey Rozeski (SVS), 3 hits, led the offense. While Nikko Lazzara (SVS) had another hit and Colin Cieslica reached base every time with 3 walks. Luke Issa (SVS) and Cian Gould (SVS) had their first hits of the season as well.
Back to Back wins:
The bats were hot on Friday afternoon as the Varsity Baseball team pounded out 10 hits with 8 walks to score a 14 to 5 victory over St. Ambrose. This win avenges an early season lost to this same squad and evened the team division record to 2 - 2. Matt O’Brien and Joey Rozeski lead the offense with 3 runs apiece and seven of the nine players scored at least once. Matt O’Brien pitched a strong six innings striking out 7 and was supported by solid defense from the entire team.
The team looks to continues it winning with a game on Tuesday against Immaculate Conception.
Winning Streak hits 3 games:
The Varsity baseball team pushed its winning streak to 3 games with a 13 to 4 victory over Immaculate Conception. Colin Cieslica, Colin Melligan, Billy Quinn (SVS), Matt O’Brien and Mat Shalloe all scored two runs in the win. Nikko Lazarra (SVS) continued swinging a hot bat collecting another hit knocking in a run.
Cian Gould (SVS) played great defense making three putouts including a tremendous throw from right field to nail a runner at first base.
Junior Varsity Baseball
JV Baseball is generally a league for 5th & 6th graders. We have historically included 4th graders in an effort to field a team and allow our 4th graders to experience baseball at a higher level. Practice starts in mid-August with games starting in early September. Playoffs run from the beginning of October to late October.
The regular season generally consists of games two days a week starting at 4:30 PM (due to darkness restrictions). Keep in mind that if there are rainouts, games may be more frequent than 2 days a week to accommodate rescheduling. The season generally consists of 8 – 10 regular season games and playoffs (depending upon how the team does). Games are 6 innings. We play on a 60’ diamond and home games are played on the QOH diamond.
This league allows “modified” stealing, bunting and we don’t bat the entire bench. It is possible for your child to play 3 innings in the field and not get an at-bat. Please prepare you child for these things so that they are not disappointed. This league is a great way to transition our players from “little league” rules to more traditional baseball rules.
