(Grades 1st through 8th) - Queen of Heaven participates in the Father Baker Soccer League in the fall for grades 1st through 8th. All matches are played outdoors at Cazenovia Park in South Buffalo. The season starts in September and ends at the end of October. Games are played once a week on either Saturday or Sundays. The league is split into 4 age groups: 1st & 2nd graders (Mites), 3rd & 4th graders (Peewee). 5th & 6th graders (JV) and 7th & 8th graders (Varsity). The Mite and PeeWee divisions play 6 - 8 regular season games and have no playoffs. JV and Varsity have 6-8 regular season games plus playoffs. Roster spots cannot be guaranteed if you do not sign up by the end of this school year.
2) Valid Sports Medical Physical Form must also be on file with the School Nurse. If you do not have a valid Sports Physical Form call your child’s Doctor. If your child’s medical form at the school is NOT valid you will be notified. The Medical Sports Physical Form is good for 1 year. If it valid the first day of that sport’s practice it will be considered valid for that sport’s season.
Both forms must be turned into the School Office or to the coach before any player can practice.
The JV1 team won 5-0 over Southtown Catholic. Zack Kent had 3 goals, and Michael Jurek and Robert Stokloso had 1 goal each. Colin Melligan recorded the shutout. The following players assisted on the 5 goals: Michael Suda, Abby Molloy, Robert Stokloso, Brigid Molloy and Shannon Graham.
The JV1 team again won 5-0 on Sunday, this time versus St. Bernadette’s. Colin Melligan again recorded the shutout. The team has yet to give up a goal this season due to Colin’s great goaltending and the solid defense of Emily Schneggenburger, Chloe Diebold, Jenna Shalloe, Michael Suda and Megan O’Brien. Zach Kent and Robert Stokloso combined for the 5 goals, while Shannon Graham had two assists.
The JV1 team completed a great season with two playoff games in the mud this weekend. They beat St. John Vianney 2-0 in the semi-finals behind Colin Melligan’s 5th shutout of the season. The Championship game against Notre Dame lasted two overtimes and a Penalty Kick shootout, with Notre Dame pulling out a close 2-1 win. The playoff goals were scored by Zach Kent and Abby Molloy. All year, this team showed the dedication, courage and teamwork that would make Queen of Heaven proud.
