Junior Varsity Basketball

The JV girls participate in a Southtowns league that starts in November and ends in March. The team is comprised of 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Games are comprised of a full game for the JV team which is the more experienced 5th graders and 6th graders. A separate game is played with the 4th graders and the less-experienced 5th graders (JJV). These games are generally played back-to-back at the same venue. The season consists of 10 - 12 regular season games plus playoffs for the JV team. Practices are generally twice a week at the coaches discretion. There are several tournament opportunities that could be taken at the coach's discretion. Parental volunteers for scoreboard operation at home games is requested.

The Varsity girls participate in a Diocesan basketball league that starts in November and ends in March. This league has 10 - 12 league games and playoffs. Practices can be 2 - 3 time per week at the coaches discretion. The varsity girls may also participate in many tournaments throughout the year. We make an effort to participate in as many High School sponsored tournaments as possible so that they can visit as many Catholic High Schools as possible (including Immaculata and St. Mary's). The team is eligible to qualify for the Diocesan playoff tournament if they finish high enough in the standings. All tournament costs are covered by the QOH sports program. Parental volunteers for scoreboard operation at home games is requested.

Over the years, the Sports Program has adopted a uniform reuse policy from year to year. The policy enables us to keep costs down and also keep our sports fee as low as possible. While most of our uniforms are returned, the process of uniform collection has been extremely time consuming and has not been successful in collecting all uniforms. Despite hours of follow-up, we spend hundreds of dollars every year replacing unreturned uniforms. Due to this fact, we will adopt a refundable uniform deposit policy. Similar policies have been in place in other Catholic Schools and have been successful.

Please send in the Permission Form & two $15 checks payable to: Queen of Heaven by Friday, September 30th in one envelope to the school office (one check labelled “Sports fee”, the other labelled “refundable uniform deposit). No permission forms should be given directly to coaches. No cash will be accepted. Your refundable uniform deposit check will not be cashed unless we do not receive your uniform and will be returned upon return of your uniform. Please do not staple the checks to the form.

***** This cutoff date has been instituted because of the late number of signups in previous years. We need to know how many players are interested, so we can assign teams, get coaches, have enough uniforms ready and notify the different leagues of our intentions. If your permission form is received after the cutoff date, your child will be put on a waiting list and will only be added to a team if there is room.

Send in a signed Permission Form to the School Office (copies can be obtained on the school website or at the school office) – only choose 1 sport from the list above

1) Please send the Permission Form and a $15 check in an envelope marked “Sports” to the school office by the last day of school. Roster spots cannot be guaranteed if you do not sign up by the end of this school year.

2) Valid Sports Medical Physical Form must also be on file with the School Nurse. If you do not have a valid Sports Physical Form call your child’s Doctor. If your child’s medical form at the school is NOT valid you will be notified. The Medical Sports Physical Form is good for 1 year. If it valid the first day of that sport’s practice it will be considered valid for that sport’s season.

Both forms must be turned into the School Office or to the coach before any player can practice.
