Queen of Heaven offers an Art Club to students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade who are in good academic standing. Art Club is an open ended studio experience where students are guided through the art making process. Students are given an assignment and are granted creativ freedom in how they choose to use the materials.
Students in Art Club have participated in many special events in our community and winning several awards for their art. Students have participated in Art Alive at the Albright Knox Art Gallery recreating Vincent Van Gogh’s “Café Terrace at Night” and they have also participated in The Empty Bowl project which uses art to help support the Food Bank of WNY. Art students at Queen of Heaven have also won awards from the Albright Knox Art Gallery for their artwork and participation in the Art’scool Art Inspired Contest.
In 2009, Queen of Heaven was the first Catholic School to donate works of art to Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. In 2013, Queen of Heaven was invited by Women and Children’s Hospital to donate artwork to the new facility that will be opening in 2015. Students at Queen of Heaven are encouraged to use their art to help others whenever the opportunity arises.
