Welcome to May! What a great joy it is to see the sun these past few mornings. Happy Mothers’ Day this weekend to all our moms!
This week we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. I want to personally thank my staff for their dedication and commitment to the community here at Queen of Heaven. Teaching at a Catholic School is truly a calling. These professionals give their service to the students and families each day. This week we are so grateful to have many big and little treats from our families to brighten our days. Thank you to Mrs. Pomietlasz for organizing the treats, to Mrs. Radwan for delivering the treats, and to all of our families that donated to the cause.
Last week at the HSG meeting I announced that we have opened a second section of PK4 and have hired nine new staff members for the 2014-2015 school year. This is unprecedented at Queen of Heaven. We are very excited about the new additions. I also announced that we will be saying goodbye to our 5th grade teacher, Mary Ellen Devine at the end of this year. Mrs. Devine will be retiring and moving on to grandchildren and second cups of coffee in the morning. I am grateful for her leadership this year and we all wish her every happiness.
In this week’s Wednesday envelope, please find the Uniform Dress Code requirements for next year. A committee of people looked at our options and made changes in an effort to have a unified community for all our current and future students.
Our starting date for next year is September 4 (1-8), September 5 (Kinder first day), and September 8(PK first day). Please note that the start date is different than was announced in the last newsletter. This is to accommodate all of our districts’ transportation. Our instruction time will be 8:15-2:45 with announcements beginning at 8:10. Drop off is still available as early as 7:15.
Congratulations to our third grade students that have made (and will make) their First Communion. What a wonderful experience and milestone in our faith community.
God bless us all on this journey together! ~Mary Damico, Principal
