Varsity Baseball
Varsity Baseball is open to 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys. Sixth graders can participate only with written permission from the Principal and Athletic Director. The league has more traditional baseball rules and plays on 90’ diamonds. The regular season consists of 8 – 10 games, plus league playoffs and Diocesan playoffs. The season usually starts in September (or with the St. Francis tournament in mid- August). Playoffs can last until the end of October. Junior Varsity Baseball
JV Baseball is generally a league for 5th and 6th graders. (We have occasionally included 4th graders in an effort to field a team and allow our 4th graders to experience baseball at a higher level.) Practice begins in mid-August, with games starting in early September. Playoffs run from the beginning of October to late October.
The regular season generally consists of games two days per week starting at 4:30 PM (due to darkness restrictions). Keep in mind that if there are rainouts, games may be more frequent than 2 days per week to accommodate rescheduling. The season generally consists of 8 – 10 regular season games and playoffs (depending upon how the team does). Games are 6 innings. We play on a 60’ diamond and home games are played on the QOH diamond. This league allows “modified” stealing and bunting. The teams do not always bat the entire bench. It is possible for a player to play 3 innings in the field and not get any at-bats. Please prepare you child for these possibilities so that they are not disappointed. This league is a great way to transition our players from “little league” rules to more traditional baseball rules. Please see the QOH Athletics Home page for information about Permission Slips, registration fees, uniform deposits and deadlines to submit all forms/fees. |
